Initial Consult
Service Description
The initial consultation is a foundational meeting designed to help both the client and the therapist determine whether they are a good fit for working together. This session typically includes a collaborative conversation about the client’s concerns, goals, and expectations for therapy, as well as the therapist’s approach and areas of expertise. It’s an opportunity for the client to ask questions, get a sense of the therapist’s style, and decide whether the environment feels comfortable and supportive. During this appointment, the therapist also conducts a structured historical interview. This may include discussing past mental health experiences, significant life events, current stressors, and any relevant medical or family history. The purpose of this assessment is to understand the client’s level of need and to begin forming a clear picture of what therapeutic support will be most helpful. Finally, the therapist and client explore what treatment might look like moving forward. This includes discussing the anticipated length of therapy, the frequency of sessions, and the types of interventions that may be used. By the end of the consultation, clients should have a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process and feel empowered to make an informed decision about continuing care.
